This PWT is statewide, made up of individuals from the state's aquaculture industry, employees from state agencies with aquaculture responsibilities, and members from academia with aquaculture responsibilities (research and outreach). The primary types of aquaculture represented on the team are shellfish aquaculture from the marine portion of NY, and recirculating aquaculture system technology (RAS) utilized for intensive production of seafood. The primary focus of the work team is to examine the barriers to aquaculture in NYS. This past year a statewide survey was carried out by the PWT: What needs to be done to stimulate Aquaculture Development in NYS? Currently the PWT is developing a series of white papers on issues that are expected to be the building blocks to move aquaculture forward in the state. This information is collectively expected to guide the format and structures for a PWT workshop scheduled for the fall of 2003.
